A new chapter begins in Vienna. It is with profoun A new chapter begins in Vienna. It is with profound joy and gratitude that I announce I have been selected as one of ten composers for the 2026 "Academy Second Modernism" at the Wiener Festwochen — one of the world's most celebrated and visionary arts festivals. The "Academy Second Modernism" is a bold and far-reaching initiative dedicated to expanding the global musical canon and shaping the future of contemporary composition. To be chosen among these ten composers from around the world feels like a rare and beautiful gift — a milestone I carry with deep humility and excitement. I am also honored to participate in the Academy's summit starting on June 12 via video message. I am firmly convinced that this gathering will be a profoundly significant milestone for the future of the global music community. I am equally moved to share that my work "The WAVE" will be performed by the magnificent Klangforum Wien on June 14, 2026. Though I will not be present in person, my heart will be there — trusting that this extraordinary ensemble will breathe new life into the music, in the heart of a city that has always been synonymous with the soul of sound. The Academy runs from June 12 to 14. My deepest gratitude to the Wiener Festwochen, and to every one of you who has walked alongside me on this musical journey. 世界最高峰の芸術祭の一つである「ウィーン芸術週間（Wiener Festwochen）」において、2026年の作曲家10名の一人に選出されました。 「アカデミー・ツヴァイテ・モデルネ（Academy Second Modernism）」は、音楽の可能性をさらに拡張し、新たな時代の響きを切り拓くことを目指す、極めて先駆的なプロジェクトです。世界中から選ばれた10人の作曲家の一人として、この歴史的な試みに加わることは、私の音楽人生において大きな意味をもつものです。 6月12日から開催されるサミットでは、私のビデオメッセージも届けられます。これからの音楽界にとって、非常に意義深い議論の場となることを確信しております。 また、2026年6月14日に行われるコンサートでは、現代音楽アンサンブルの最高峰「クラングフォルム・ウィーン（Klangforum Wien）」により、私の作品『The WAVE』が演奏されます。私が現地に赴くことは叶いませんが、伝統あるフェスティバルの舞台で、素晴らしい演奏家たちによって作品に新たな命が吹き込まれる瞬間を、日本より深い喜びとともに心待ちにしています。 Academy Second Modernismは、2026年6月12日から14日にかけて開催されます。この貴重な機会をいただきましたフェスティバル関係者の皆様、そして私の音楽を愛し、支えてくださるすべての皆様に、心より感謝申し上げます。 Details: https://www.festwochen.at/en/academy-second-modernism #WienerFestwochen #KlangforumWien #AcademySecondModernism #AkademieZweiteModerne

ミシガン大学名誉教授のマイケル・ウドー先生ご夫妻がお越しくださいました。 2枚目の写真は、1993 ミシガン大学名誉教授のマイケル・ウドー先生ご夫妻がお越しくださいました。 2枚目の写真は、1993年の富山公演のパネルとともに。当時、ミシガン大学と桐朋学園大学の交流プログラムの一環で開催された、とても懐かしく大切な思い出です。 久しぶりの再会に、心温まるひとときとなりました。 I was so happy to see Professor Emeritus Michael Udow of the University of Michigan and his wife again. The second photo shows us beside a panel from the 1993 Toyama concert, one of our most treasured memories from the exchange program between the University of Michigan and Toho Gakuen School of Music. My friendship with Michael spans nearly 50 years, and over the decades, he has become one of the most cherished and irreplaceable people in my life—truly like family to me. The many performances we have shared on stages around the world, and the long hours spent talking together, have been a profound source of support in my life. These precious shared memories are among the greatest treasures of my life.
